It is well known for large stocks of Bream, Roach, Rudd, Hybrids, Perch, Tench, Eels and Pike. All these specimens have been caught in this river over the years. There are 20 small lakes within 10 miles of the Town which hold good stocks of coarse fish. This lake is situated to the east of the Town, the most popular fish on this lake is wild brown trout. Salmon fishing is just half an hours drive from Scariff. It is essential to book for this type of fishing in advance. There is a fishing tackle shop and bait services available in the area, boats for hire, advice from local angling club and accommodation to suit all types of anglers. Clare's most beautiful countryside. It passes through the ten parishes of East Clare - Killaloe, O'Callaghan's Mills, Broadford, Tulla, Feakle, Flagmount, Whitegate, Mountshannon, Tuamgraney and Scariff. The route give access to a countryside of great richness and variety.
There are remnants of old woodland, traditional farmland, bogland, the range of Slieve
Bernagh and Slieve Aughty and the ever present backdrop of mighty Lough Derg and the River
Shannon - the artery of Ireland. After a good day's walking there can be few places co
compare with East Clare for hospitality and the opportunity to enjoy the rich cultural

Tucked in along the western side of Lough Derg, Woodpark Golf
Course offers visitors, be they complete novices or seasoned veterans, a wonderful
opportunity to enjoy a relaxed round of golf in idyllic surroundings. Located just five
minutes drive from the lakeside village of Mountshannon the course is approached along
quiet country roads which offers occasional and tantalising glimpses of Lough Derg and the
varied ancient and beautiful landscapes of this part of East Clare. Indeed on arriving at
Woodpark visitors will be struck by the inherent beauty of the location and it's
surrounding hinterland. In the distribution of natural wealth this part of the Shannon
region has been given a lion's share; mountain, lake, forest, heathland and parkland
combine to offer a kaleidoscopic view of Ireland in miniature.

The Senior Club caters for all adult players (over the age of 18 years) and partake in Under 21, Junior B, Junior A, and Senior championship competitions each year The Club has had success at all levels and has five senior championships to its credit. The club has been involved in two finals in the nineties but were unsuccessful in both. The minor club is designed specifically for the younger players and has teams participating in Under 10, U 11, U 12, U 14, U 15, U 16 and Minors. It has won titles in most of these grades with the Under 15 title being annexed in 1999. The local centre has a 27,000 sq. foot fully equipped indoor arena and two outdoor all weather arenas. Riding lessons are available by booking for all grades, in groups or privately. Pony trekking is available and very popular in the summer season. The indoor arena is also available to sporting groups for training during the winter season. EVENTS AT THE CENTRE INCLUDE:- (1) Annual International Horse Show. It caters for young and the not so young in the East Clare area. The Club bought their playing field some years ago and have now developed the pitch and built a fine Club House. Matches are held on Sunday afternoons during the winter season and training is held on one evening of the week. Grounds are at Cravens Park, Scariff. President is Eamonn Nugent. Secretary is Dorothy M. Woods. Treasurer is Tom Broderick. Club Captain is Mark McKenna. The junior players are managed by Nick Grisewood. Each year in early September Scariff Agricultural Show Society hold its annual show. It is a very suitable time in the fall of the year to display the fruits of the years work with an exhibition of the best in local and national horses, cattle, sheep, dogs, farm produce and crafts. The highlight of the show in recent years is the St. Brendan's Creme Liqueur/Golden Vale sponsored All Ireland Yearling Filly final. Enquiries to +353 61 921096 Scariff's local Soccer Club is Mountshannon Celtic which was formed in 1990. It has two senior and one Junior team. The senior teams (A & B) have matches in a county league which are held on most Sundays of the Soccer season and are played in different venues throughout the County. The juveniles are also involved in a League and their matches are usually on Saturdays.
