About the Festival

The Scariff Harbour Festival is an open-air, street-based event celebrating the many attractions and amenities of Lough Derg, the local waterways and the East Clare countryside accessible from Scariff.

A thriving rural community situated in the heart of East Clare, Scariff has increasingly become the hub of commercial and social activity in the area, supporting a large immediate hinterland and smaller villages in the locality. The town and its surroundings are also the base for visitors from Ireland and abroad who come to enjoy the exceptional angling and other leisure facilities of the lake and river.

Recently, Scariff was chosen as the location for the regional headquarters of Waterways Ireland. Waterways Ireland is a North/South implementation body with responsibility for the management, maintenance, development and restoration of inland navigable waterways principally for recreational purposes.

The redevelopment of Scariff Harbour by Waterways Ireland, due for completion in the second half of 2003, will establish Scariff as an important centre on Ireland's waterways. In recognition of this new and unique role, the festival will seek to forge a special relationship with corresponding towns in Northern Ireland to which Scariff is now linked through the waterways system and to promote cross-border exchanges both at the political and community levels.

The weekend promises an exciting and varied programme of music and entertainment catering to all ages and tastes and featuring acts from Northern Ireland and special events promoting the angling, boating and recreational potential of the lake and waterways. With the exception of the Mickey Harte concert, admission to all events is free.

Come and experience the warmth and hospitality of this close-knit rural community. You won't be disappointed.
